International Brigade Memorial Trust
Members present at our May meeting passed a resolution to renew our affiliation

displayed. Aslef members from Waterloo Nine Elms along with those from Brighton,
Wimbledon and various branches District 8 marched from Clerkenwell Green to
Trafalgar Square. Pictures taken on the day will be posted on the Picture Gallery
page of this site in due course.

Recent meetings have seen the branch nominate Waterloo members Marz
Colombini for Distrct 1's vacancy on Aslef's Executive Committee and Peter
McCauley for a second term on the Appeals Committee.

Call For Maximum Workplace Temperatures
As part of ASLEF’s Squash campaign to improve cab conditions, we have argued
for legislation defining maximum temperatures suitable for the workplace. There is
obvious logic to this, as legislation exists about minimum temperatures at work.
The law currently provides for a minimum reasonable temperature of 16 degrees
Celsius or 13 Celsius where the work is physically strenuous. This is contained in
the Approved Code of Practice to the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare)
Regulations.
ASLEF supports any change in the law which would strengthen our arguments and
move us in the right direction. That is why we are asking members to support a
Petition calling on the government to introduce laws on maximum temperatures at
work that has been placed online by an USDAW member.
You can add your name to the petition via this link:

Electrification Campaign
Full electrification of Britain's rail network will lead to a cleaner, more
environmentally friendly railway and help protect the long term sustainability of our
industry for both passenger and freight services. Support the campaign by adding
your name to the petition at the link shown below.

Victory For Aslef In Waterloo Taxi Dispute
After years of battling to keep what we always knew to be rightfully ours, an
Employment Tribunal has unanimously found in our favour. This landmark victory
was hard earned by a great many people who all played their part. Thanks go out
to District Organiser Graham Morris, Executive Committee member Simon Weller,
Vicky Phillips and the legal team at Thompsons, retired member Bob Parker in
who's name the claim was made, and of course all the Drivers at Waterloo who
were so solid in the 2006 strike. We are also grateful for the support and
encouragement received from the other branches on SWT and those further afield.
