RAILWAYS PENSION SCHEME
Your Railway Pension
If you require information or advice about your Railway Pension you can access it
via any of the following:
1) Call the Customer Help Line on 08002343434

2) Write to Customer Services,
            Pensions Management,
            P.O.300,
            Darlington.
            DL3 6YJ
For either you will need to quote your name and national insurance number or
pensions reference number.

3) Log on to
www.railwaypensions.co.uk
To register and set up a password you will need your pensions reference and
national insurance number. Once registered you will be able to view variable
retirement age, lump sum and pension based on your current salary by clicking
on 'Defined Benefits members'. You can also find information on BRASS with
regular updates on investment fund performance.

Death In Service
If you die while employed your nominees can recieve £155,000 tax free. If
however you have not completed a nomination form your death in service benefit
may be subject to to tax leaving just £90,000 not to mention a long drawn out
probate case for your loved ones. Nomination forms can be obtained from the
Waterloo LDC office or your Branch Secretary.

Brass
Brass is the AVC (Additional Voluntary Contribution) of the Railways Pension
fund, ie a way to increase your pension benefits. It is tax efficient as you don't pay
tax on your contributions. The maximum contribution is aprroximately 5% of your
salary. It should be noted that the funds are subject to market forces, both in the
UK and worldwide. Long term investments however, are generaly expected to
overcome market variences.
